Whatever their rank, whatever their military branch, our troops knew that Sherman Billingsley always had a table waiting for them at the Stork Club. Many soldiers wrote to Sherman from the front, some to make Stork Club reservations for the date they expected to return, others to share their stories with him. The Stork Club symbolized the American ideal and Sherman’s respect for our troops never diminished. A strong supporter of the USO, Sherman never left anyone in uniform waiting at the Stork Club’s gold chain.
