Wittmack created an enduring portrait of a pensive WWII GI during a moment of calm on the battlefield.   Far from home, he longs for those simple pleasures he misses most:  Bowling, Bill’s Gay Nineties Bar, Football, Mom’s Apple Pie, Glamorous Movie Stars, and the most famous nightspot in the world, the Stork Club!  The original 1943 painting was a gift from the artist to Sherman Billingsley, the founder of the legendary Stork Club, and now hangs in Shermane Billingsley’s home.
